Starter immobilizer +50

Starter immobilizer +50

Fault symptom

The starter motor does not work The alarm is not set off in the start position with the alarm armed The starter motor runs at different ignition positions

Important

If the LED flashes, the car may be self-immobilized.

Action

1. Check fuses

Check Maxi fuse 2 and fuse 36 and check that there voltage to each fuse. Connect the test lamp between

Maxi fuse 2 and a safe grounding point, the test lamp should light.

fuse 36 and a safe grounding point, the test lamp should light when the ignition key is turned to the "ST" position (+50).

If the test lamp lights, proceed to point 2. If the test lamp does not light, continue fault diagnosis in Service Manual 3:2 Electrical System, +30 Power Supply" and "Starting System".

2. Check +50 supply

Unplug connector H33-3. Connect the test lamp between H33-3, pin 33 and a safe grounding point. Turn the ignition key to the "ST" position (+50). The test lamp should light.

If the test lamp lights, proceed to point 3. If the test lamp does not light, proceed to point 10.

3. Check to see if the car starts

Loop between pins 33 and 32 in connector H33-3. The gear selector lever should be in position "N" for cars with manual gearbox (including Sensonic) and position "P" for cars with automatic transmission. Turn the ignition key to the "ST" position (+50). The starter motor should turn.

If the starter motor works, proceed to point 4.

If the starter motor does not work, proceed to point 11.

4. Check the contact is working in the starter relay

Refit connector H33-3. Disconnect the starter relay. Loop in the starter relay socket between sleeve 30 and sleeve 87. The starter motor should turn.

If the starter motor works, proceed to point 8. If the starter motor does not work, proceed to point 5.

5. Check the +30 feed to the starter relay

Connect the test lamp between the starter relay socket, pin 30 and a safe grounding point. The test lamp should light.

If the test lamp lights, proceed to point 6. If the test lamp does not light, proceed to point 7.

6. Check the cable assembly to the starter motor

Conduct a continuity test on the cable assembly between the starter relay socket, pin 87 and the starter motor, pin 50. The resistance should be < 1 Ohm.

If the resistance is incorrect, check and take action on the cable assembly including all intermediate connectors.

If the resistance is correct, continue fault diagnosis in Service Manual 3:2 Electrical System, "Starter system".

7. Check the cable assembly to fuse Maxi 2

Connect the test lamp between fuse Maxi 2 and a safe grounding point. The test lamp should light.

If the test lamp lights, check and take action on the cable assembly including all intermediate crimped connections. If the test lamp does not light, continue fault diagnosis in Service Manual 3:2 Electrical System, "+30 Power supply".

8. Check the +50 supply to the starter relay

Connect the test lamp between the starter relay socket, pin 86 and a safe grounding point. The gear selector lever should be in position "N" for cars with manual gearbox (including Sensonic) and position "P" for cars with automatic transmission. Turn the ignition key to the "ST" position (+50). The test lamp should light.

If the test lamp lights, proceed to point 9. If the test lamp does not light, proceed to point 12.

9. Check the starter relay ground connection

Connect the test lamp between the starter relay socket pin 85 and pin 30. The test lamp should light.

If the test lamp lights, change the starter relay. If the test lamp does not light, check and take action on the cable assembly including grounding point G33S.

10. Check the cable assembly to fuse 36

Connect the test lamp between fuse 36 and a safe grounding point. Turn the ignition key to the "ST" position (+50). The test lamp should light.

If the test lamp lights, check and take action on the cable assembly. If the test lamp does not light, continue fault diagnosis in Service Manual 3:2 Electrical System, "Starting system".

11. Check the cable assembly to the control module

Unplug the control module. Conduct a continuity test on the cable assembly between

connector H33-3, pin 33 and the control module, pin 20.

connector H33-3, pin 32 and the control module, pin 8.

The resistance should be < 1 Ohm. If the resistance is incorrect, take action on the cable assembly. If the resistance is correct, proceed to point 13.

12. Check the cable assembly to the starter relay

Cars equipped with Sensonic Continue fault diagnosis in service Manual 4:4 "Automatic clutch operation, Sensonic" .

Cars with automatic transmission:

Continue fault diagnosis in Service Manual 4:2 "Automatic transmission" .

Cars with manual gearbox:

Conduct a continuity test on the cable assembly between connector H33-3, pin 32 and the starter relay socket, sleeve 86. The resistance should be < 1 Ohm.

If the resistance is incorrect, take action on the fault in the cable assembly.

If the resistance is correct, proceed to point 13.

13. Final test

Start the car and check to see if the fault symptom remains. If the problem remains, proceed to
