Type designation, gearbox


The type designation of an automatic transmission consists of three groups of alphanumeric characters as in the following example: FA44 903 95BW-00301.

The three groups of characters are separated with spaces and contain different information on the gearbox as shown below.

First group:

Pos. 1 Drive F = Front-wheel drive

Pos. 2 Type of gearbox A = Automatic transmission

Pos. 3 Number of forward gears

Pos. 4 Total gear ratio top gear (code)

Automatic transmissions are designated by nine characters, as follows: 95 = production year B = production month, as follows: A B C D E F G H J K L M 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 W = automatic transmission model (W: 50-40LE) 00301 = sequential number per month
