Clutch wire

Clutch wire

To remove

1. Disconnect the battery cables and lift out the battery.

2. Disconnect the clutch wire from the gearbox clutch lever by pulling the wire and unhooking it from the wire stop.

3. Disconnect the wire's rubber dampener from the fastener on the gearbox.

4. Remove the cover from the distribution box and remove any hood contact for an alarm.

5. Remove the nut, disconnect and turn aside the distribution box.

6. Disconnect the wire's cover from the fastener on the wheel house (left-hand drive cars) or the fastener on the gearbox and the strut of the engine compartment respectively (right- hand drive cars).

7. Disconnect the data link connector.

8. Remove the instrument panel's lower panel.

9. Remove the air duct in the floor.

10. Remove the knee shield.

11. Remove the fuse board and swing it out.

12. Disconnect the ICE control unit and swing it out. Be careful not to damage any electric cables.

13. Remove the air duct to the air distributor on the instrument panel.

14. Push the pedal's return spring to one side and remove the wire's plastic eye.

15. Grip the self-adjusting mechanism and pull out the clutch wire through the bulk-head partition.

Fitting

1. Spray silicon on the self-adjusting mechanism and press it through the bulk-head partition.

Important

The self-adjusting mechanism must be fully pressed against the bulk-head partition for the self-adjustment to operate.

2. Hook the plastic eye of the wire on to the pedal and replace the pedal's return spring. Check that nothing prevents the pedal from returning to its neutral position.

3. Press the wire's rubber dampener into the fastener on the gearbox.

4. Pull out a bit of the wire and fit the wire stop on the coupling lever.

5. Fit the cable sheathing in the bracket on the wheel housing (LHD cars) or the brackets on the gearbox and the engine bay's transverse strut (RHD cars).

6. Check the functioning by moving the coupling lever forward in the car's direction of travel. The balancing spring should then be pressed together and the length of the wire's cover be reduced. When the coupling lever is released, the cover should then regain its original length. Repeat three to four times.

Depress the clutch pedal 5 times. Pull the clutch cable and return spring in a forward direction away from the bulkhead partition and release them.

Important

Do not jerk the return spring and cable.

7. Fit the distribution box.

8. Fit the distribution box cover and any hood contact.

9. Fit the air duct to the air distributor on the instrument panel.

10. Fit the ICE control unit.

11. Fit the fuse board.

12. Fit the knee shield.

13. Fit the floor air ducts.

14. Thread the data link connector through the hole in the lower panel and fit the panel.

15. Secure the data link connector with the screws.

16. Fit the battery and connect the battery cables.
