Selector lever position P

Position P must only be selected when the car is at a standstill. The selector lever and the transmission are locked. The engine can be started.

Selector lever position R

Position R must only be selected when the car is at a standstill. This position cannot be selected without lifting the locking device. Wait a short while to enable the reverse gear function to connect before you press the accelerator pedal.

Wait a short while to enable the reverse gear function to connect before you press the accelerator pedal.

Selector lever position N

In position N there is no connection between the engine and the transmission. The engine can be started. The parking brake should be applied to prevent the car from moving.

In order to avoid a rise in the temperature of the engine and the transmission, position N should be selected when standing still for lengthy periods.

Selector lever position D

Position D is the normal driving position. After having engaged the gear, wait a short while to enable the gear position to engage before you press the accelerator pedal. The transmission automatically shifts between gears 1 - 4. The gear shifting points depend on the position of the accelerator pedal and the speed of the car.

Selector lever position 3

In this position the fourth gear is blocked. The car starts in first gear and then shifts automatically between gears 1 - 3.

Position 3 is recommended for driving on roads with a lot of bends and in heavy town traffic.

If you move the lever from position D to position 3, the transmission shifts to third gear which gives better engine braking. The lever should not be moved to this position at speeds above 150 km/h.

Selector lever position 2

This position is to be preferred in mountainous areas. The engine's power is better utilized and engine braking is improved. The transmission shifts automatically between first and second gear. Third and fourth gears are blocked. The lever should not be moved to this position at speeds above 150 km/h.

Selector lever position 1

Position 1 should be selected when you want very powerful engine braking on very steep hills, up or down, to avoid frequent gear shifts which could result in overheating of the transmission fluid.

If the selector lever is moved from position D to position 1, the transmission immediately shifts down to third gear. Shifting to second gear takes place at about 115 km/h and to first gear at about 60 km/h. Manual down-shifting must not take place at speeds above 150 km/h. In position 1 all other gears are blocked.
