Engine speed

Engine speed

The Trionic engine management system sends an engine speed signal to pin 13 of the control module. The signal is a square wave which varies between 0 and B+ and has a frequency of about 30 Hz at idling speed. This corresponds to two pulses per crankshaft revolution.

If the signal is grounded the engine will stop.

The engine speed signal is the Sensonic system's most important source of information and is used to control clutch engagement when the car is driven off. The car can be driven off only when the throttle has left the idling position.

The engine rpm signal is also used for:

Limiting engine speed if too low a gear is selected.

Switching off the engine if the driver leaves the car with a gear engaged.

If no signal is present the "CHECK ACS" warning lamp will light up and, depending on the position of the throttle, the car can be driven off.
