Speed signal
By means of a sensor on each wheel, the ABS control module always knows the speeds of the different wheels. Electronic control systems or components which need to know the speed of the car are supplied with this information by the ABS control module.
The ABS control module receives vehicle speed information from the wheel sensors in the form of a.c. voltage of varying frequency. The a.c. voltage is converted in the control module to square wave pulses that are sent to the following points.
Pin 7 sends a speed signal from the RH front wheel to:
• |
MOTRONIC 2.10.2
|
• |
MOTRONIC 2.8.1
|
• |
TRIONIC
|
• |
TCS Pin 17 sends a speed signal from the LH front wheel to:
|
• |
CC (Cruise control)
|
• |
TCS Pin 19 sends a speed signal from the RH rear wheel to:
|
• |
TCS Pin 22 sends a speed signal from the LH rear wheel to:
|
• |
MIU (Speedometer)
|
• |
TCS
|
If a voltmeter reading is taken on one of the pins concerned, it should change between 0 V and approx. 10 V when the relevant wheel is slowly rotated.
The signals are also sent out if the ABS is not working and the ABS (ANTI LOCK) warning lamp is on.
