Cleaning a car after airbag has been triggered

When an airbag is triggered, talcum powder and combustion residue is released in the form of dust particles that can contain traces of sodium hydroxide.

Warning

Use protective goggles and gloves to avoid irritation of the skin and eyes when cleaning a car in which the airbag has been triggered.

Put the airbag envelope in a tight-sealing plastic bag when it has been removed. Remember that the airbag's gas generator will be extremely hot immediately after the airbag has detonated.

Thoroughly clean all interior surfaces of the car with a vacuum cleaner.

Wash your hands with soap and water after handling a detonated airbag.
