Expansion valve, cars with a V6 engine LHD


To remove


1. Drain the AC system of refrigerant.

2. Remove the glove box.

3. Remove the centre console's side panel.

4. Remove the knee guard.

5. Remove the air duct on the floor.

6. Remove the air duct to the dashboard's side vent.

7. Remove the automatic transmission's control module from the bracket on the bulkhead wall and let it hang from its cables.

8. Remove the bracket.


9. Unplug the dashboard wiring. Open the cable ties and bend the cables to one side.

10. Turn down the carpet and remove the protective cover.

11. Remove the screws securing the fan control unit (cars with ACC).

12. Undo the nut securing the anti-freeze thermostat and remove the end cover on the climate control unit. The clips can be broken off to facilitate removal. The end cover can be screwed in place when refitted.

13. Remove the screws securing the expansion valve.


14. Remove the expansion valve and plug the openings.


To fit



1. Fit new O-rings on the pipe connections from the evaporator. Lubricate the O-rings with synthetic vaseline.

2. Fit the expansion valve.

3. Tighten the screws securing the expansion valve.

Tightening torque: 5 Nm (3.7 lbf ft)

4. Refit the end cover on the climate control unit and tighten the screws. Run the ventilation fan at maximum speed and check that condensate does not leak out from the evaporator. If necessary, fit a new gasket between the end cover and climate control unit.


5. Tighten the nut securing the anti-freeze thermostat.

6. Refit the fan control unit and tighten the screws (cars with ACC).

7. Refit the protective cover.

8. Plug in the dashboard wiring. Secure the wiring with the cable ties.

9. Screw the bracket for the automatic transmission control module to the bulkhead wall.

10. Fit the control module in the bracket.

11. Fit the air duct to the dashboard's side vent.


12. Refit the floor ducts.

13. Cars with an airbag on the passenger's side: Refit the knee guard and tighten the nuts.

14. Refit the centre console's side panel.

15. Refit the glove box.

16. Fill up with compressor oil, carry out vacuum pumping of the AC system and fill up with refrigerant.
