Fourth bow

To remove


1. Operate the soft top to half open position.

2. Remove the retaining strip


3. Remove the front side rail seals and seal retainers.

4. Detach the roof cloth from the first bow.

5. Drill away the blind rivets securing the headlining and detach the headlining from the first bow.


6. Detach the headlining from the second, third and fourth bows.

7. Drill away the blind rivets securing the cables to the roof cloth.

8. Drill away the blind rivets securing the front side ribbing to the front rails.


9. Detach the outer roof from the second bow.

10. Drill away the blind rivets securing the rear side ribbing to the middle rails.

11. Detach the headlining from the third bow.

12. Detach the outer roof from the third bow.


13. Remove the felt strip and staples securing the outer roof to the fourth bow.

14. Remove the staples securing the cloth bands to the fourth bow.

15. Remove the rear rail seals.


16. Remove the screws securing the fourth bow and lift it away.


To fit



1. Put the fourth bow in place. Centre it vertically. The tautness of the roof cloth is adjusted by moving the fourth bow up and down. Centering it vertically will provide adjustment allowance.

2. Screw on the fourth bow.

3. Fix the fourth bow to the third bow with the special tool, part no. 82 93 045.

Important

This is necessary so that the fourth bow does not move while the outer roof is being fitted.


4. Staple the cloth bands to the fourth bow. Pull the cloth flap on the outer roof over the fourth bow and staple it on.


5. Blind rivet the rear side ribbing to the middle rails on the soft top mechanism.

6. Put back the rear rail seals.


7. Thread the cables through the sides of the roof cloth.

8. Blind rivet the front side ribbing to the front rails of the soft top mechanism.

9. Blind rivet the cables flat side out.


10. Glue the outer roof to the first bow. Start at the corners. Use 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive. If refitting an old first bow, any dirt or remains of old adhesive must first be removed from the bottom of the bow.


11. Screw on the retaining strip to the first bow.

12. Put back the front rail seal retainers and seals.

13. Insert the headlining retaining strip into the fourth bow.

14. Fasten the outer roof to the third bow. Press on the strip securing the headlining to the third bow.

15. Fasten the outer roof to the second bow. Press on the strip securing the headlining to the second bow.

16. Blind rivet on the front of the headlining.

17. Connect the diagnostic tool, clear any diagnostic trouble codes and then program the control module. See .
