Before starting fault diagnosis
Before starting fault diagnosis |
Initial fault diagnosis |
Try operating all motors in both directions before starting fault diagnosis. If the electrically adjustable seat's fuse blows when any of the motors is operated, the probable cause is that one of the motor's connections is shorting to ground. Rectify the fault and change the fuse. Then continue fault diagnosis.
Fault diagnosis with the ISAT |
Connect an ISAT to the test socket located under the dashboard next to the steering column. Switch on the ignition and call up the electronic unit. Note that the seat can no longer be operated once communication with the ISAT has been established.
Should the ISAT fail to establish communication with the electronic unit, .
First read the diagnostic trouble codes, if any, and make a note of them. Before starting any other fault diagnosis, check that the electronic unit receives correct input signals from the memory buttons and also from the manual controls. To do this, select "Read switches" on the ISAT. Read off one switch at a time by operating the manual control or depressing a memory button. The ISAT display should then show "OPEN" or "CLOSED", as appropriate.
Relevant diagnostic trouble codes |
Both permanent and intermittent faults will be detected when fault diagnosis is carried out with an ISAT. The first digit of the diagnostic trouble code indicates the type of fault in question: 4 and 5 indicate permanent faults, 2 and 3 intermittent faults.
