Remember during fault-tracing
Warning
Never
remove
the ICE signal ground on the A pillar without first disconnecting the battery. The control module could be seriously damaged.
1.
SDA Mk II must always be connected to the diagnostics instrument.
2.
The data link connector is located by the steering column under the dashboard.
3.
During diagnosis the ignition key should always be in the drive position.
4.
Obtain readouts of all stored diagnostic trouble codes in all systems and make a note of them before disconnecting the battery and any control modules.
5.
If communication cannot be established between the diagnostics instrument and the cooling system, first check that fuse number 3 (1-speed radiator fan or 2-speed radiator fan, low-speed) or number 4 (2-speed radiator fan, high speed) in the engine bay's distribution centre is intact and that current is supplied to the fuse.
Then check the cable between ICE control module's connection 60 and data link connector's pin 8.
6.
Also check that there is power and correct ground in the data link connector and that the connector's pins are undamaged and securely fitted.
7.
See lists of diagnostic trouble codes.
8.
To avoid damage to the control module/components, always check that the ignition is switched off before unplugging the connector(s).
9.
Check that the control module's ground connection and power supply are correct.
10.
It could sometimes be necessary to unplug connectors and check that connections and pins are undamaged and securely fitted. Plug in the connectors again and erase all diagnostic trouble codes. If possible, start the car and drive it to check whether the fault(s) are still present.
11.
All signals around the 12 V level are proportional to the battery voltage and the levels should thus only be used as a guide.
12.
The 0 V signals designate ground, but could on a sensitive multimeter give an indication of a measurable voltage.
13.
Never switch from one module to another (for example from V, via A to Ohm) on the measuring instrument without first having disconnected the instrument's measuring cables.
Important
After having carried out a check of the functioning, always erase the fault memory with the "CLEAR FAULT CODES" command.
