Knock sensor
Fault symptoms
CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) on. Performance down, continual retardation of the ignition
timing.
Conditions

Engine temperature > 45°C
|

Break or short circuit after 5 seconds.
|
Check the wiring
Intermittent faults may occur as a result of temporary short circuits and breaks in the
wiring. Jiggle the wiring at several points and in different directions to ascertain whether the
wiring harness, including any connectors, is causing the trouble. Observe the multimeter,
ISAT scan tool or test lamp while doing this.
Diagnostic procedure
1. Check the control module's electrical interface

Unplug the knock sensor's
2-pin connector.
|

|
Connect a multimeter to:
|
Are the readings OK?
Continue with point 3.
Continue with point 2.
2. Check the wiring between the knock sensor and control
module

|
Check that the screening is
connected to grounding point G7S.
|

|
Check the leads for continuity between:
|
Are the readings OK?
Continue with point 4.
Repair or replace the wiring. Continue with point 4.
3. Check the tightening torque

|
Check that the sensor is tightened
to a torque of 22 Nm.
|
Is the bolt securing the knock sensor loose?
Tighten the bolt to a torque of 22 Nm. Continue with point 4.
Change the knock sensor. Continue with point 4.
4. Final check

Clear the diagnostic trouble code.
