Incorporated in the distributor is a camshaft position sensor (Hall effect sensor) which, by means of a field rotor fcompression.
In connection with shifting up or down on cars with automatic transmission, the ignition is retarded by 12° in order to limit torque.
Ignition timing
Ignition timing is calculated by the control module chiefly on the basis of the following information:

Engine speed

knocking, if any
|
• |
throttle position (idling only).
