Fault handling, (I) catalyst damaging misfire

Fault handling, (I) catalyst damaging misfire

In the event of misfiring which is harmful to the three way catalytic converter the driver is immediately warned by the CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) flashing at a frequency of 1 Hz, regardless of whether it was already on or not. A diagnostic trouble code is also generated. To facilitate fault diagnosis a special code is generated at the same time if there is less than 10 litres of fuel in the tank.

For the CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) to go out by itself, 3 consecutive driving cycles carried out under similar conditions as when the fault first occurred must be completed without any misfiring which is harmful to the three way catalytic converter occurring.

For the diagnostic trouble code to be cleared, as well as any special code for low fuel level that may also have been generated, 40 faultless warm-up cycles must also be completed.

1. Fault criteria for catalyst damaging misfire fulfilled

2. CHECK-ENGINE light blinks at 1Hz, fault code is set. In case of low fuel level a code is set for this as well.

3. Catalyst damaging misfire stops.

4. CHECK-ENGINE light on steady

5. Catalyst damaging misfire does not occur in 3 consecutive driving cycles with similar conditions as when the fault first occurred.

6. CHECK-ENGINE light off

7. and

8. No misfiring harmful to three way catalytic converter in 40 warm-up cycles.

9. Fault code erased.
