Fuel gauge (MIU 1)

Fuel gauge (MIU 1)

When the ignition switch is in the Drive position, a positive voltage is applied to pin 11 (12p-1) of the main instrument display panel and also to the fuel gauge and low fuel warning lamp. This lamp lights up when the fuel reserve remaining in the tank is down to about 8 litres.

The fuel contents unit in the Saab's fuel tank is fitted with a float on the end of a lever which moves a sliding contact along a variable resistor.

This variable resistor corresponds to the level sensed by the float in the tank. The current through the fuel gauge in the main instrument display panel will be in proportion to the resistance of the sensor. Accordingly, the position of the fuel gauge needle will correspond to the resistance of the sensor.
