Intermittent wipe without wash

ICE controls intermittent operation of the windscreen and rear-window wipers.

When the switches for the windscreen wipers and rear window wiper are set for intermittent operation, a voltage is applied to ICE and the wipers start by sweeping the windscreen twice (two strokes). The wipers then sweep the windscreen once every seven seconds.

Synchronization of the wipers is programmed in ICE so that after only one stroke (eight seconds) the windscreen and rear window wipers sweep at the same time.

Intermittent wipe with wash

When the switches for the windscreen wipers and rear window wiper are moved to the wash position, voltage is applied to the headlamp wiper motor and ICE, which then grounds the two relays for intermittent operation.

The windscreen wipers start immediately but the rear window wiper starts after a certain delay.

This is because the washer fluid takes a little longer to reach the rear window.

When washing stops, the wipers continue working for another five seconds. After another eight seconds the windscreen wipers complete an extra stroke to remove any surplus fluid running down the windscreen. The rear window wiper does the same but not until after 16 seconds.
