Saab 900 M94 with automatic transmission.

Background

The turning torque for the bolts that hold the drive plate and the torque converter together have been changed and are different for 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder engines. In addition, the turning torques given for the transmission range switch are incorrect in certain service manuals. This Service Information replaces SI 441-1490 (in Swedish only).

Procedure

The text should be altered as follows:

Page 024-4 in Service Manual 4:2 "Automatic Transmission":

Torque converter/actuator 4 cylinder

60 Nm (44 lbf ft) M10

6 cylinder 30 Nm (22 lbf ft) M8

Transmission range switch/transmission (bolt)

25 Nm (18.5 lbf ft)

Lever/transmission range switch

25 Nm (18.5 lbf ft)

The following text should also be added to page 024-4:

Transmission range switch/transmission (nut)

8 Nm (6 lbf ft)

Page 442-7 in Service Manual 4:2 "Automatic Transmission":

Tightening torque: 60 Nm (44 lbf ft) 4 cylinder 30 Nm (22 Ibf ft) 6 cylinder

Page 472-15 in Service Manual 4:2 "Automatic Transmission":

"2 Refit the transmission range switch's nut.

Tightening torque 8 Nm (6 lbf ft)

3 Screw in the lever and move the selector lever to position N.

Tightening torque 25 Nm (18.5 lbf ft)

Tighten the sensor with the screw(s) so that the arrow on the lever corresponds to the marking on the transmission range switch.

Tightening torque 25 Nm (18.5 lbf ft)

Check that the engine starts with the selector lever in positions P and N, and that the reversing light only goes on in position R."

Tightening torque 60 Nm (44 lbf ft)
