Starting interlock, cars without anti-theft alarm
|
Fault symptom
Starter motor does not work.
Fuse 36 blows.
Starter motor runs in different selector lever positions (R, D, 3, 2, 1).
Diagnostic procedure
1 Check the fuse
Check that fuse 36 is intact and supplied with positive battery voltage (B+).
2 Check the starting current
-
|
Unplug connector H10-1 (10-pin connector located behind the battery).
|
-
|
Connect a test lamp to pin 6 of male connector H10-1 and a good grounding point. Turn the ignition switch to the START position. The test lamp should light up.
|
Did the lamp light up?
Continue with point 3.
Check and, if necessary, repair or replace the wiring harness between fuse 36 and pin 6 of connector H10-1.
3 Check the starting interlock switch
-
|
Check the continuity of the gear selector position sensor's starting interlock switch and associated wiring harness.
|
-
|
Connect an ohmmeter to pins 6 and 10 of connector H10-1. With the selector lever in positions P and N, the resistance should be less than 1 ohm. In other selector lever positions the resistance should be OL (infinite).
|
Is the ohmmeter reading OK?
Continue as described in Service Manual 3:1 "Electrical system".
Check and, if necessary, repair or replace the wiring harness, including connectors. Alternatively, the gear selector position sensor must be adjusted or possibly changed. Then continue as described in Service Manual 3:1 "Electrical system".
