Power flow, 3rd gear


The input shaft rotates clockwise and is connected to the rear planetary gear train's (P1) ring gear by clutch C1. The result is that the input shaft and the rear planetary gear train's ring gear rotate clockwise as a unit.

Freewheel F1 and brake B2 prevent the sun wheel from rotating.

The rear planet gear runs clockwise round the sun wheel at the same time as it rotates clockwise.

The planet carrier and the driving intermediate gear rotate clockwise as a unit at a lower speed than the input shaft but at a higher speed than in 1st gear.

The lower planetary gear train's ring gear rotates anticlockwise.

Clutch C3 connects the planet carrier and the sun wheel.

The lower planetary gear train's planet carrier, ring gear, sun wheel and final gear rotate anticlockwise as a unit.

The planet carrier and the final gear rotate anticlockwise as a unit at a higher speed than in 2nd gear.
