Front cross member

Front cross member

1. Mount the car on an aligning bench and realign to the correct measurements if necessary.

2. Drill out the spot welds.

3. Cut away the cross member. Cut as close to the member as possible.

4. Realign any deformed metalwork.

5. Use a grinder to clean the areas on the spare part and the body that are to be welded.

6. Apply welding primer to the surfaces which are to be spot welded. Use Teroson Zinkspray.

7. Fit the spare part in position and check the alignment by means of the aligning bench's coordinate measuring system.

8. Spot weld the cross member in position.

9. All-weld the joints on the back of the cross member. If the wheel housing and lengthwise member are to be replaced at the same time as the cross member, this joint should be spot-welded. The cover on the front edge of the wheel housing is in this case removed, which makes access possible for spot welding.

10. Grind the welds clean.

11. Wash off surplus welding primer. Welding primer makes for poorer adhesion of paint, filler and sealant.

12. Apply primer to all surfaces that have been ground clean. Use Standox 1K Füllprimer.

13. Seal joints and metal folds with putty. Use Terostat 1K-PUR.

14. Apply anti-corrosion agent to the inside of the cross member after it has been painted. Use Terotex HV 400 or Mercasol 1.
