Part of inner side panel, five-door body

1. The side panel and rear section of the door frame should be removed.

2. Mount the car on an aligning bench.

3. Cut the inner side panel as shown, being careful not to damage the C pillar reinforcement.

4. Drill out the spot welds securing the inner side panel. Grind down the seam welds in the wheel housing.

5. Knock loose the inner side panel and realign any deformed metalwork.

6. Cut the spare part roughly to size so that it will overlap the joint by about three centimetres.

7. Position the spare part and fix it with a few welding clamps. Adjust it precisely and check the alignment by means of the aligning bench's coordinate measuring system.

8. Cut through the spare part and body simultaneously so that the joints can be welded edge-to-edge.

9. Use a grinder to clean the areas on the spare part and body that are to be welded.

10. Apply welding primer to the surfaces which are to be spot welded. Use Teroson Zinkspray.

11. Position the spare part and fix it with a few welding clamps.

12. Fit the outer side panel and door frame in place and check their fit.

13. Remove the side panel and door frame.

14. Weld the inner side panel in place.

15. Weld the joints.

16. Grind the welds clean.

17. Wash off surplus welding primer. Welding primer makes for poorer adhesion of paint, filler and sealant.

18. Apply primer to all surfaces that have been ground clean. Use Standox 1K Füllprimer.

19. Fit the door frame and rear wing.
