      Part of rear frame member

The rear bumper abutment should already have been removed when a replacement subframe member is fitted.

        Important

The subframe member must be cut and joined only behind the marking shown. If the damage extends further, the entire subframe member must be replaced.

Mount the car on an aligning bench and realign to the correct measurements if necessary.

        1.

        Cut the subframe member.

        2.

Drill out the spot welds and remove the damaged part of the subframe member.

        3.

        Realign any deformed metalwork.

        4.

Cut the spare part roughly to size so that it will overlap the joint by about three centimetres.

        5.

Position the spare part and fix it with a few welding clamps. Adjust it precisely and check the alignment by means of the aligning bench's coordinate measuring system.

        6.

Cut through the spare part and the old subframe member simultaneously so that the joint can be welded edge-to-edge.

        7.

Remove the spare part and use a grinder to clean the areas on the spare part and body that are to be welded.

        8.

Apply welding primer to the surfaces which are to be welded. Use Teroson Zinkspray.

        9.

Position the spare part and fix it with a couple of welding clamps.

        10.

Weld the joint on the subframe member.

Wash off surplus welding primer. Welding primer makes for poorer adhesion of paint, filler and sealant.

        13.

Apply primer to all surfaces that have been ground clean. Use Standox 1K Füllprimer.

Apply anti-corrosion agent to the inside of the frame member. Use Terotex HV 400 T 129 or Mercasol 3.
