Replacement of damaged chassis data plate
Replacement of damaged chassis data plate |
If the chassis data plate is damaged in a collision or when collision damage is being repaired, the workshop orders a replacement plate from the Statutes and Safety (Lagar och Säkerhet) department.

The guiding principle is that a replacement plate should never be supplied to any garage or repair shop that is not an authorized Saab workshop.
Statutes and Safety (Lagar och Säkerhet) orders the replacement plate from Production Planning, requesting the damaged plate from the workshop at the same time.
When Statutes and Safety (Lagar och Säkerhet) has received the damaged plate it will be scrapped and the replacement plate forwarded in a suitably safe manner to the workshop.
If the damaged plate cannot be sent to Statutes and Safety (Lagar och Säkerhet), the following will be required:
- |
A police certificate confirming that the plate is missing and that the car has not been stolen or scrapped.
|
- |
A certificate from the Saab workshop showing that the VIN stamped in the car body coincides with the registration documents and describing how the plate has been misplaced.
|
The matter is registered at Statutes and Safety (Lagar och Säkerhet) and a copy of the letter from the Saab workshop acknowledging receipt of the replacement plate is filed away.
This procedure is laid down because Saab Automobile AB must not be the agency through which a stolen car can be given a new identity.
