Compressor oil
PAG oil (

lycol), a fully synthetic oil of glycol type, is used in the AC system. The same oil is used in the Saab 9000. PAG oil is very hygroscopic, i.e. it absorbs moisture from the air very easily in the same way as brake fluid does. Water is bound chemically in the oil and cannot be removed by vacuum pumping. It is therefore important that the oil is stored in closed containers and that it is not exposed to the air for more than very short periods. The oil is supplied in tubes of 20 ml to minimize the risk of leftover oil being stored for the next time it is needed. If connections in the AC system are open, they must be plugged in order to prevent moisture from entering the system. There are specially made plugs for this which can be ordered. The PAG oil dissolves fat and can irritate the skin. Always use protective gloves when you handle the oil.
The hoses have butyl rubber on the inside and an outside made of EDPM rubber. The hoses are equipped with heat protection where necessary. The high-pressure pipe between the receiver and expansion valve and the low-pressure pipe between the expansion valve and compressor are divided as spares to make them easier to fit.
The O-rings are made of a special type of chloroprene rubber (neoprene). They should be lubricated with synthetic vaseline before they are fitted in the AC system. When fitting AC components, always fit new O-rings.
