B1317 , B1322 , B1327

Potentiometer ( B1317 - Fifth bow, B1322 - Tonneau, B1327 - Main motor) reading beyond limit.

Fault symptoms

Various symptoms can appear depending on the fault and the position in which the soft top is. Examples of symptoms: The fifth bow latch closes before the fifth bow is lowered; The soft top cover does not lock in its bottom position.

Conditions

These diagnostic trouble codes are generated if the control module reads a potentiometer value that deviates more than 10 units from the programmed end positions.

Warning

The normal control module safety functions are disconnected when the soft top mechanism is operated with the diagnostic tool. The motors continue to run as long as the diagnostic tool activates them, irrespective of the position of the soft top, fifth bow or soft top cover. Use caution and always lower the rear seat backrest.

Diagnostic help

The potentiometer value can be read with the diagnostic tool.

- Connect the diagnostic tool.

- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

- Read the value for the potentiometer.

If everything is functioning correctly, the diagnostic tool should display the current potentiometer values, which should lie between 15 and 240 depending on the position of the soft top.

It is important to check the mechanical function of the potentiometer and that it is correctly fitted. The potentiometer guide must not be damaged.

Check the potentiometer value by activating the soft top so that the potentiometer reaches its end positions. Then compare these with the programmed end positions.

Program the control module. See

Checking the wiring

Intermittent faults can occur during temporary short circuits and open circuits. Jiggle the wiring harness in several places and in various directions to detect problems in the wiring harness and connectors. Watch the multimeter, diagnostic tool and test lamp during the check.

Diagnostic procedure

1. Check the mechanical function of the potentiometer

- Make sure the potentiometer is fitted correctly.

- Check for damage on the potentiometer guide.

Is the function correct?

yes

Program the control module. Continue with step 2.

no

Rectify the fault and program the control module. Continue with step 2.

2. Final check

- Clear the diagnostic trouble codes.

- Activate the soft top with the ROOF button and operate it for a few cycles

- Make sure the soft top is functioning correctly and that no diagnostic trouble codes are generated.

Has the diagnostic trouble code recurred?

yes

Change the control module as described in .

no

The fault has been rectified.
