Boot lid
Boot lid |
To prevent damaging the soft top or boot lid, the TSAS limits the possibility of unlocking the lid with the button in the driver's door. The unlock button is connected to a relay in the control module via pin 19 (K20). When the button is pressed, the relay will operate if the following conditions are fulfilled. The control module then supplies current to the boot lid lock motor via pin 18 (K20). The boot lid can only be unlocked with the button in the driver's door when:
• |
The soft top is completely raised.
|
• |
When the soft top is completely lowered and the ignition is on.
|
The position of the boot lid also affects the possibility of operating the soft top. The control module determines if the boot lid is open or closed via the luggage compartment light switch. If the lid is open, the soft top cannot be operated. If the "ROOF" button is pressed, the control module will send a message to SID, which will sound and acoustic signal and displays the message "CLOSE TRUNK".
Cars with anti-theft alarm |
It is not possible to open the boot lid using the remote control while the soft top is down (open) on cars of model year 1995 with anti-theft alarm. On cars from model year 1996 with anti-theft alarm, it is, however, possible to open the boot lid using the remote control even when the soft top is down. When the button is pressed on the remote control, the theft alarm control module supplies current from pin 23 directly to the boot lid lock motor. This function can cause certain problems when working with the different soft top components.
Important | ||
Never use the remote control to open the boot lid while working on soft top components. |
||
If, while working on a soft top component, the fifth bow and soft top cover are left standing straight up with the ignition off while the remote control is used to unlock the boot lid, it will not be possible to operate the soft top. It will not be possible to close the boot lid either, as the force will not be sufficient to push it down.
One possibility is to use the diagnostic tool and operate the motors required to be able to lower the soft top cover and then close the boot lid. Alternatively, an assistant can press on the boot lid so that the soft top can be operated until the soft top cover is closed and then close the boot lid.
