Two DC motors raise and lower the soft top. The motors are located where the soft top is mounted to the body, one on each side of the car. They drive ratchets that are each connected with levers to the rear rail of the soft top mechanism. The motors can be run in both directions by reversing the polarity of the motor connections.
They are supplied with 12 V from the control module when the soft top is being operated, from pin 1 (K20) for raising and from pin 11 (K20) when lowering. If the motor becomes blocked, there is a current limiter circuit in the control module. A potentiometer by the left-hand main motor detects the position of the soft top.
