Air induction system, four-cylinder fuel injection engine

Air induction system, four-cylinder fuel injection engine

1. Air intake pipe

2. Air cleaner, consisting of:

3. Cover

4. Filter element

5. Air chamber

6. Mass air flow sensor

7. Connecting hose

8. Throttle

The air induction system consists of the air cleaner, mass air flow sensor, rubber connecting duct and resonator. The air induction system is connected to the throttle body.

The volume of air consumed by the engine passes through the induction system where it is cleaned by a filter which removes particles of dust. The air cleaner (air chamber) also acts as an intake silencer.

The mass air flow sensor provides the engine management system control module with continuous information on the air mass consumed by the engine. The mass air flow sensor signal is processed by the control module, which monitors the fuel- air mixture needs of the engine.

For further information on the mass air flow sensor, see “Engine management system”.
