Background

Communication with the CD changer can sometimes be broken after disconnecting the battery or removing the radio fuse (no. 13 on the main fuse board in the dashboard). This will become apparent when nothing happens if the “CD”-button is pressed on the main unit. There will be no information displayed on the SID unit.

This phenomenon can also occur when the main unit is activated by turning on the ignition.

The problem is caused by a change under production in the M1997 main unit processor, which unfortunately resulted in this fault occurring.

As the problem has been localized to the main unit, the same problem can occur with a retrofitted CD changer from the Clarion accessories range.

Parts required

Main unit radio - Clarion, part number as shown in the table on the previous page.

All the units in the Saab spare parts stock have been rectified.

Procedure

A. Markets with Clarion agent or service workshop

Remove the main unit from the car and send it to the respective Clarion representative or Clarion service workshop. Clarion will modify the unit and return it.

For detailed information, see “Warranty Routines for factory mounted Clarion radio system in Saab 900”.

B. Markets without Clarion agent or service workshop

The main unit is replaced according to normal spares procedure.
