3. If no power supply is present, change the switch. If a power supply is present, check the wiring between pin 39 of the ICE module connector and pin 10 of the switch connector.

4. To check intermittent wiper operation, select "ACTIVATE RELAY" on the scan tool and then "WINDSCREEN WIPER".

Intermittent wiper operation should be activated when the ignition switch is "ON". If it is not, check whether there is a power supply on pin 30 of the relay connector which changes between 0 V and 12 V when intermittent operation is activated. If there is no power supply, the fault is in the relay. Change the relay.

5. If a power supply is present, check the wiring between pin 30 of the relay holder and pin 9 of the switch for breaks/shorting.

6. Check that a 12 V power supply is present between:

pin 8 of the switch and a good grounding point when the switch is in position J. If no power supply is present, fit a new switch.

pin 3 of the windscreen wiper motor and a good grounding point when the switch is in position J.

If no power supply is present, check the wiring between pin 8 of the switch connector and pin 3 of the windscreen wiper motor connector for breaks/shorting.

7. If intermittent wiper operation does not work after the above checks have been carried out, the fault is probably in the windscreen wiper motor. Change the wiper motor.

Important

The ICE module does not control the regular wiper system but only intermittent wiper operation.

Position 1 low speed

1. Check whether a 12 V power supply is present on pin 8 of the switch connector when the switch is in position I.

If it is not, fit a new switch.

2. Check whether a 12 V power supply is present between pin 3 of the wiper motor connector and a good grounding point.

If not, check the wiring between pin 8 of the switch connector and pin 3 of the wiper motor connector for breaks/shorting.

3. If the windscreen wiper does not work after the above checks have been carried out, the fault is probably in the motor. Change the wiper motor.

Important

The ICE module does not control the regular wiper system but only intermittent wiper operation.

Position 2 high speed

1. Check whether a 12 V power supply is present on pin 7 of the switch connector when the switch is in position II.

If it is not, fit a new switch.

2. Check whether a 12 V power supply is present between pin 4 of the wiper motor connector and a good grounding point.

If not, check the wiring between pin 7 of the switch connector and pin 4 of the wiper motor connector for breaks/shorting.

3. If the windscreen wiper does not work after the above checks have been carried out, the fault is probably in the motor. Change the wiper motor.

Windscreen washing with intermittent operation

1. Read the scan tool display when the switch is moved to the wash position, i.e. towards the steering wheel rim. Read the scan tool display when the switch is moved to the wash position, i.e. towards the steering wheel rim.

Switch in position P - " ON "

Switch in position 0 - " OFF "

If this is not the case, check that a 12 V power supply is present on pin 5 of the switch when in position P. If no power supply is present, change the switch.

2. Check whether a 12 V power supply is present on:

the washer pump's (+) terminal when the switch is in position P.

If not, check the wiring between pin 5 of the switch and the washer pump's (+) terminal for breaks/shorting.

3. For further information about checking the washer hoses, see Service Manual 3:1 "Electrical system".

4. If the windscreen washer system does not work after the above checks have been carried out, the fault is probably in the washer pump. Change the pump.

Headlamp wash/wipe system

General

1. Check that fuses 10 and 31 are intact and live.

2. Check that a 12 V power supply is present on:

pin 6 of the windscreen wiper switch connector.

pin 3 of the headlamp wiper motor connector (parking circuit).

3. Check the grounding by taking a reading across pin 1 of the headlamp wiper motor connector and a good grounding point. The resistance should be < 1 ohm.

3 (contd.) If point 2 is not correct, check the wiring harness for breaks/shorting.

4. Check the switch and headlamp wash/wipe position P as in point 3 on the previous page under "Windscreen washing with intermittent operation".

5. Check whether a 12 V power supply is present on pin 2 of the headlamp wiper motor connector when the switch is in position P.

If not, check the wiring between pin 5 of the switch connector and pin 2 of the headlamp wiper motor connector for breaks/shorting.

6. For further information about checking the washer hoses, see Service Manual 3:1 "Electrical system".
