Wiring harnesses
Wiring harnesses |
The wiring harnesses in the Saab 900 comprise insulated and colour-coded leads gathered together in "harnesses" originating from the car's fuse boxes. The fuse boxes contain fuses and relays and are located in the dashboard and in the engine bay.
The wiring harnesses are ordered logically, such as front harness, engine harness, dashboard harness, rear harness, door harness, roof harness and boot lid/tailgate harness.
This has been done so that only a minor section need be replaced if a fault should occur in a wiring harness or its leads.
All cable connections are in the form of solder-free cable lugs. The majority located in the engine bay are moisture-proof
In case of a fault, the connections in question should be inspected to discount bad contact and needless voltage drops being the cause.
If fuses blow often or if damaged insulation is suspected, the wiring harness insulation should be tested.
Note | ||
If there is a short circuit between the power source and the fuse, the fuse will not blow. |
Always take notice of the whether the cross-sectional area of the selected lead is able to handle the load in question when installing new leads and that the protection at lead-throughs in panels and at clips is satisfactory.
Wiring diagrams and description of operation for each system can be found under the description of the respective system.
Note | ||
Always follow the fitting instructions when fitting accessories. Otherwise, there is risk of interrupting or destroying the function of the electronic units and control modules. |
