Output shaft speed sensor

Output shaft speed sensor

The output shaft speed sensor is mounted in the transmission housing. It provides the transmission control module with information on the speed of the transmission's output shaft.

The sensor is of electromagnetic (inductive) type and measures the speed of the output shaft by means of a toothed wheel (the parking lock ring gear). The sensor's signal voltage, a sine voltage, increases with vehicle speed. At 30 km/h it is about 1.1 V a.c. and 110 Hz measured across the sensor's two pins.

Signal voltage is on pin 30 and signal ground on pin 31.

The resistance across the pins is 300-600 ohms.

The transmission control module uses the speed signal to check the gear-shifting times.

The absence of output shaft speed data will activate the limp-home mode.
