Clutch operation
Clutch operation |
The Sensonic system is available as an option on Saab 900 models equipped with the B204L engine and a manual gearbox.
The gearbox has outlets for a gear selector position sensor, a sensor for input rpm and a clutch housing temperature sensor.
Clutch operation is hydraulic with a concentric slave cylinder, as distinct from other Saab 900 models equipped with a manual gearbox.
The release bearing is adapted for hydraulic clutch operation. The pressure plate is exclusive to the Sensonic system while the driven plate is the same as on Saab 900 models equipped with the B204L engine and a conventional clutch.
The master cylinder is mounted on an actuator which operates the clutch by means of an electric motor and worm gear.
The clutch actuator unit is mounted in the engine bay behind the battery.
The master cylinder is of standard pattern and receives brake fluid from a third compartment in the brake fluid reservoir.
The actuator is controlled by a control module mounted on the bulkhead partition in front of the glove box.
The control module controls the clutch by means of a gear selector position sensor and an input rpm sensor mounted on the gearbox, a sensor in the gear lever and signals from the Trionic system.
Substitute functions are provided for all system sensors and input signals.
The system incorporates a number of safety functions to prevent injury to the car occupants or damage to the clutch.
