Gear-changing while driving

When the driver changes gear while driving, a sensor in the gear lever senses that the gear lever has been moved.

On the basis of signals from the gear selector movement sensor and the gear selector position sensor, the control module determines whether the gear lever is moved into neutral or is already in a gear.

If the gear lever is moved into neutral, the control module sends a signal to the actuator unit instructing it to open (disengage) the clutch as long as the throttle opening is not too wide.

If the gear lever is already in a gear, however, no opening (disengagement) of the clutch takes place.

When the gear lever is in neutral the clutch is always open (disengaged), regardless of engine speed or throttle opening.

As soon as the lever is moved to a new gear position, the clutch closes (engages) again.

If too low a gear is selected while the car is being driven, the clutch will only close (engage) partially and engine speed will be limited to 5,000 rpm. "DISENGAGE GEAR" will light up on the SID at the same time.

This function allows engine braking to be used in the event of brake failure. It also prevents over-revving of the engine.

If too high a gear is selected, no engagement will take place and the "CHANGE DOWN" message will light up on the SID.
