To transmit test and detonation power to the driver side airbag there is a contact roller between the steering wheel and steering wheel console. The contact roller also transmits power to the horn through two separate cables.

The contact roller consists of a fixed and a moving part. Between the fixed and the moving parts is a coiled plastic strip with four conductors molded into it.

The movable part of the contact roller can be turned approx. 4 turns, i.e. approx. 2 turns in either direction from centre position. If this is exceeded the spiral shaped band will break and the SRS system will be put out of operation. This will be detected by the control module and the SRS lamp will come on.
