Outer side reinforcement with outer B pillar reinforcement (conv.)


1. Mount the car in an alignment bench with measuring fixture and cross-measure as necessary.

2. Remove the side panel.

3. Remove the door frame.

4. Cut the B pillar reinforcement at the bottom.


5. Drill out the spot welds.

6. Knock away the reinforcements and align any deformed metalwork.

7. Drill out the spot welds securing the remaining sections of B pillar reinforcement and knock it loose.


8. Grind clean the surfaces to be welded on the new reinforcements.

9. Grind clean the surfaces to be welded on the body.

10. Drill holes for plug-welding the bottom of the B pillar reinforcement.

11. Apply welding primer to the surfaces to be spot welded or plug welded. Use Teroson Zinkspray.

12. Put the new reinforcements in place and secure them with some welding clamps.

13. Put the side panel and door frame in place and check the fit.

14. Remove the side panel and door frame.

15. Weld the outer side reinforcement and B pillar reinforcement in place.


16. Seam weld the upper edge of the B pillar reinforcement to the side panel reinforcement.

17. Plug weld the bottom of the B pillar reinforcement.


18. Grind the welds clean.

19. Fit the door frame and side panel. See Door frame (conv.) and Side panel (conv.)

20. Wash off surplus welding primer. Welding primer makes for poorer adhesion of paint, filler and sealant.

21. Apply primer to all surfaces that have been ground clean. Use Standox 1K Füllprimer.

22. Seal joints and metal folds with putty. Use Terostat 1K-PUR.

23. Apply anti-corrosion agent to internal surfaces after painting. Use Terotex HV 400.
