1. |
Mount the car on an aligning bench.
2. |
Realign the car to the correct measurements if necessary.
3. |
Left wheel housing:
Drill out the spot welds on the battery tray. Knock loose the tray and remove. Grind away the seam welding. |
4. |
Roughly cut away the damaged part of the wheel housing.
5. |
Drill out the spot welds securing the damaged part of the wheel housing.
6. |
Knock loose the damaged part of the wheel housing. Realign any deformed metalwork.
7. |
Cut the new wheel housing roughly to size so that it will overlap the joint by about three centimetres.
8. |
Fit the spare part in position. Align it with the hole in the existing wheel housing and fix it with a couple of welding clamps. Adjust the position of the spare part exactly, checking the alignment by means of the aligning bench's coordinate measuring system.
9. |
Cut through both the spare part and the existing wheel housing simultaneously so that the joint can be welded edge- to-edge.
10. |
Remove the spare part.
11. |
Use a grinder to clean the areas on the body and the new part of the wheel housing that are to be welded.
12. |
Apply welding primer to the surfaces which are to be spot welded. Use Teroson Zinkspray.
13. |
Position the new part of the wheel housing. Align it with the hole in the existing wheel housing and then fix it with a couple of welding clamps.
14. |
Secure the new wheel housing with a couple of tack welds.
15. |
Fit wing, radiator member and bonnet in position. Check the position of the wheel housing. Adjust as necessary.
16. |
Weld the joints on the wheel housing. The upper part of the joint should be welded from the inside and the lower part from the outside.
17. |
Grind the welds clean.
18. |
Spot weld the wheel housing to the frame member.
19. |
Left-hand wheel housing: Use a grinder to clean the areas on the battery tray and the wheel housing that are to be welded.
20. |
Left-hand wheel housing: Apply welding primer to the surfaces that are to be spot welded. Use Teroson Zinkspray.
21. |
Left-hand wheel housing: Weld the battery tray to the wheel housing.
22. |
Weld the end plate to the front edge of the wheel housing after welding the frame member to the front cross member.
23. |
Wash off surplus welding primer. Welding primer makes for poorer adhesion of paint, filler and sealant.
24. |
Apply primer to all surfaces which have been ground clean. Use Standox 1K Füllprimer.
25. |
Apply anti-corrosion agent to the inside of the wheel housing after it has been painted. Use Terotex HV 400 or Mercasol 1.
