Modification of top stack
Make sure that the fifth bow has guides for the rear window. If not, the following action must be taken.
1.
Remove the guide in the middle of the fifth bow.
2.
Mark out two points 30 cm from the centre where the guides for the rear window are to be fitted on the fifth bow.
3.
Drill two 5.0 mm holes at the markings. Thread the holes with a greased M6 tap. Remove any burrs from the rear of the holes.
Important
Any burrs must be completely removed or the roof cloth will be damaged and leaks will occur.
4.
Screw on the guides and check their fit.
Important
Make sure the end of the screw does not protrude from the other side. If it does, it must be filed down.
5.
Remove the guides as these must not be fitted when the roof cloth is drying.
6.
Drill away the blind rivets for the existing stop plates on the fourth bow and remove them.
7.
Enlarge the holes in the fourth bow and the new stop plates with a 5.0 mm drill. Remove any burrs.
8.
Blind rivet the stop plates as shown in the illustration and secure the wiring on the left-hand side with a cable tie.
9.
Mark out the bottom mounting hole for the stop plate by measuring 135 mm from the centre of the top screw. Use the stop plate as a template for the top hole. Drill the holes with a 3.0 mm bit to a depth of 10 mm using a depth guide.
10.
Blind rivet the stop plates as shown in the illustration.
11.
Carefully vacuum away all the drill cuttings in the car.
12.
Remove any old glue. Use Teroson or 3M cleaning agent.
Important
Clean the top stack from any loose glue using Teroson or 3M cleaning agent. Old glue that is firmly adhered acts as a primer for the new glue. Make the surface clean and even.
