3 Fifth bow rises completely and then all other movements stop

A. Are the windscreen member microswitches being closed by the locating studs?

v A.1. The soft top stops when the fifth bow is unlocked. If the stops are set too low, the locating stubs may affect the windscreen member microswitches causing the soft top to stop. This can occur before the fifth bow is fully raised. Note that the SID will also display ’’CHECK HEADER LATCHES” when this occurs. A simple way of checking this condition is to press the first bow up by hand when the soft top stops. If the soft top continues to raise, the stops must be adjusted.

Adjust the upper stops correctly. See .

B. The fifth bow potentiometer does not reach its end position. ’’TOP CYCLE ERROR" is displayed on the SID.

v B.1. Reprogram. See

C. Has the soft top cover motor been disengaged?

v C.1. Remove the right-hand rear light and inspect the soft top cover motor. Make sure it is correctly engaged mechanically. If the distance shown in the illustration is greater than 38 mm and if the pinion on the cover makes a grating sound, then the motor housing for the soft top cover is deformed. If the gears are not sufficiently engaged, then check whether the teeth have been damaged and if the emergency closing lever cable is correctly adjusted. If there is visible damage to the gear teeth or housing, the motor will have to be changed.

v C.2. Once the motor has been correctly engaged, check that the motor's mounting plate is fitted in its groove and that the lock is parallel to the potentiometer mounting.

v C.3. The friction between the emergency closing lever cable and the cable sheath may be too great due to the position of the cable/sheath. Cut off the cable ties securing the cable/sheath to the body so that the cable can be located in a better position. Make sure the emergency closing lever is pushed all the way to the rear of the car and that the cable is not bent (see illustration). Secure the sheath again. Make sure the gears for the soft top cover are engaged and check the adjustment of the cable.
