Stick a length of masking tape on the roof to avoid damaging the paintwork. |

Remove the trim round the rear
window and on the tailgate itself.
See Service Manual 8:2 "Interior equipment"

Remove the central locking system motor by undoing two retaining bolts and the
lever so that the motor can be turned, providing access to the motor connector.

| 3. |
Unplug the connector for the central locking system motor.
|
|
| 4. |
Unplug the other connectors from the wiring.
|
|
| 5. |
Release the wiring from the cable ties.
|
|
| 6. |
Prise away the wear protection in the hole for the cable lead-through
to gain access to the lead-through catches.
|

| 7. |
Remove the cable lead-through from the tailgate by releasing the
catches from inside, one at the top and two at the bottom.
|
|
| 8. |
Withdraw the wiring harness through the tailgate.
|
|
| 9. |
Cut the clips away from the tailgate.
|
|
| 10. |
Remove the washer nozzle by turning it through 90° and lifting it
out.

| 11. |
Remove the washer nozzle from the washer hose.
|
|
| 12. |
Withdraw the washer hose from the tailgate, first removing the rubber
stop on the tailgate.

| 13. |
Remove the hinge pin by using a screwdriver to release the circlip
securing it. Then withdraw the hinge pin (2 persons).

| 14. |
Detach the gas springs from the tailgate, one on each side. Use a screwdriver to
release the circlip and then withdraw the spring from
the ball (2 persons).

| 15. |
Lift away the tailgate (2 persons).
