Pressure sensor, EVAP - B204L only

Warning

Removal of the tank pressure sensor involves partial dismantling of the car's fuel system. The following points must therefore be observed in connection with this work:

Work only in a well-ventilated area! If approved equipment for the extraction of fuel vapours is available, be sure to use it.

Wear suitable gloves! Prolonged contact with fuel can cause skin irritation or dermatitis.

Keep a class BE fire extinguisher close at hand! Be mindful of the danger of sparks caused by short circuits and when connecting and disconnecting leads in electrical circuits.

No smoking anywhere in the vicinity.

Wear protective goggles.

To remove

1. Drain the fuel from the tank.

Important

The tank must never be drained by suction through the filler pipe as this will damage the non-return valve!

2. Raise the car, making sure the right-hand lift arm is situated as far to the right as possible so as not to be an obstruction during removal.

3. Detach the hose to the filler pipe from the tank. Detach the purge line from the tank to the evaporative emission canister.

3.a. Press the connection inwards towards the evaporative emission canister in the direction of the connection.

3.b. Compress the ring so that the catches are bent upwards.

3.c. Release the connection by detaching it from the connector pipe on the evaporative emission canister.

4. Plug the tank. Release the quick-release coupling on the purge line to the filler pipe with tool 83 95 261.

5. Undo the clamp securing the fuel filter.

6. Support the tank, on a column lift for example, and then undo the nuts on the tank straps. Unhook the straps.

7. Place the handbrake wire for the left-hand wheel to one side.

8. Carefully lower the tank, right-hand side first, until the top becomes visible.

9. Unplug the connectors to the fuel pump and tank pressure sensor.

10. Remove the protective cap and detach the pressure and return lines from the fuel pump.

11. Detach the fuel lines from their retainers on the tank.

12. Lower the tank to working height.

13. Unplug the tank pressure sensor connector and blow clean the area around the tank pressure sensor.

14. Remove the tank pressure sensor.

To fit

1. Make sure all sealing surfaces are clean.

2. Fit the tank pressure sensor.

3. Spray with Kontakt 61 and plug in the connector to the tank pressure sensor.

4. Place the tank on a column lift, for example.

5. Fit the fuel connections and plug in the cables to the fuel pump and tank pressure sensor.

6. Place the handbrake cable for the left-hand wheel to one side and raise the tank slightly, left-hand side first.

7. Secure the fuel lines in their retainers on the tank.

8. Raise the tank completely and fasten the tank straps.

Note

Pay attention to the line from the tank to the evaporative emission canister.

9. Tighten the tank straps, securing the handbrake cable with the left-hand one.

10. Connect the line from the tank to the evaporative emission canister.

11. Screw on the fuel filter.

12. Remove the plug from the tank connection and fit a new hose on the filler pipe.

Important

The hose to the filler pipe must always be changed. It must not be refitted as there is a risk of it cracking.

13. Fit the filler pipe purge line.

14. Lower the car.
