Fuel injection manifold with injectors, V6engine

Fuel injection manifold with injectors, V6 engine

Warning

Removal of the fuel injection manifold involves partial dismantling of the car's fuel system. The following points must therefore be observed in connection with this work:

Work only in a well-ventilated area. If approved equipment for the extraction of fuel vapour is available, be sure to use it.

Wear suitable gloves. Prolonged contact with fuel may give rise to skin irritation or dermatitis.

Keep a class BE fire extinguisher near at hand. Be mindful of the danger of sparks caused by short-circuits and when connecting and disconnecting leads, etc. in electrical circuits.

No smoking anywhere in the vicinity.

To remove

Important

Scrupulous cleanliness is of the utmost importance when working on the fuel injection manifold and injectors. Thoroughly clean the area round the injectors, injection manifold and intake manifold and blow dry with compressed air.

1. Remove the engine's protective covers.

2. Remove the hose clip securing the rubber duct. Also disconnect the IAC valve's hose and unplug the rear knock sensor's connector from the duct. Remove the rubber duct. Remove the inlet manifold retaining bar and the cable conduits.

3. Disconnect the throttle and Cruise Control cables from the throttle lever and bracket. Disconnect the brake servo and crankcase breather vacuum hoses.

4. Remove the seven nuts securing the upper half of the inlet manifold.

5. Lift up the upper half of the inlet manifold and support it with a rubber mallet or the like.

Important

Stuff paper or rags into the inlet manifold so that screws and the like cannot fall into the cylinders.

6. Unplug the connectors from all the injectors.

7. Remove the fuel lines and the vacuum hose from the pressure regulator.

8. Remove the seven fuel injection manifold retaining bolts. Use a screwdriver to jiggle out the manifold.

9. Remove all injectors from the fuel injection manifold.

10. Remove the pressure regulator.

To fit

1. Inspect the O-rings at both ends of the injectors. Smear them with a little petroleum jelly (Vaseline) to facilitate their refitting.

2. Fit the pressure regulator.

3. Fit all the injectors on the fuel injection manifold.

4. Fit and tighten the fuel injection manifold.

Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 lbf ft)

5. Plug in the injector connectors.

6. Fit the fuel and vacuum hoses.

7. If necessary, clean the inlet manifold flange. Remove the paper or rags from the manifold and fit a new gasket. Fit the upper half of the inlet manifold correctly into position.

8. Tighten all manifold flange bolts. Start by tighten the bolts in the middle and continue alternately to the outside of the manifold.

Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 lbf ft)

9. Tighten the retaining bar at the rear of the inlet manifold.

Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 lbf ft)

10. Fit the cable conduits.

11. Check that the pressure regulator vacuum hose is connected to the front nipple on the throttle body (in front of the butterfly).

12. Connect the crankcase breather and brake servo vacuum hoses and also fit the throttle and Cruise Control cables to the throttle lever and mounting bracket.

13. Fit the rubber duct and tighten the hose clip. Connect the AIC hose and plug the rear knock sensor connector into the duct.

14. Fit the protective covers over the engine.
