General

The engine management systems for the Saab 900 (MOTRONIC and TRIONIC) are based on building up pressure in the fuel system by means of an electric pump which draws fuel from the fuel tank. The pressure is determined by the pressure regulator, which maintains the fuel pressure at a constant level relative to the pressure in the engine's air induction pipe (four-cylinder engines only). Consequently, the amount of fuel injected into the engine is determined only by the opening duration of the injectors and not by varying pressure in the intake manifold.

Fuel is injected into the engine by injectors (solenoid valves) mounted in the intake manifold close to the inlet valves and connected by a common fuel injection manifold.

The opening duration of the injectors is controlled by electric pulses from the control module.
