test with lamp
|
Fault symptoms
Engine fails to start
Diagnostic procedure
1. Check the fuses
-
|
Check that the following fuses are
intact:
|
Are the fuses intact?
Continue with point 2.
Change any blown fuses and start the engine. Drive the car and check
whether the fuses blow.
2. Check the control module's power
supply
-
|
Turn the ignition switch to the ON
position.
|
-
|
Check that the CHECK ENGINE
lamp (MIL) lights up and stays on.
|
Did the CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) come on?
Continue with point 3.
The control module has no power supply from the +15 or +30 circuits. Continue
fault diagnosis as described in "anti-theft alarm"
.
3. Check the performance of the crankshaft position
sensor
Check whether the CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) goes out during starter motor
cranking.
Did the CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) go out?
Continue with point 4.
If the CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) did not go out, the control module is
receiving no information from the crankshaft position sensor. Carry out fault diagnosis under
as described for diagnostic trouble code P0336.
4. Check the power supply from the main
relay
-
|
Turn the ignition switch to the ON
position.
|
-
|
Unplug the IAC valve's 3-pin connector.
|
-
|
Connect the test lamp to pin 2 and battery negative (B-).
|
The test lamp should light up.
Did the test lamp light up?
Continue with point 5.
See fault diagnosis for the main relay on page
252.
5. Check the ignition coil's power
supply
-
|
Turn the ignition switch to the ON
position.
|
-
|
Unplug the ignition coil's 2-pin connector.
|
-
|
Connect the test lamp to:
|
The test lamp should light up.
Did the test lamp light up?
Continue with point 6.
Repair or replace the lead between pin 1 of the 2-pin connector and crimped
connection J4.
6. Check the ignition system
-
|
Disconnect the HT cable from the
spark plug in cylinder 1.
|
-
|
Move the selector lever to position N.
|
-
|
Fit a test spark plug in the HT cable for cylinder 1.
|
Is a spark produced?
Continue with point 7.
See fault diagnosis for diagnostic trouble code P0300, ignition system (points
5, 6, 7 and 8).
7. Check the fuel pump circuit
-
|
Connect the test lamp to the fuse's input and output
contacts.
|
The test lamp should light up.
Did the test lamp light up?
Check the fuel pressure, see "Fuel system and Air induction system"
.
See fault diagnosis for the fuel pump relay on page
256.
