Beam length switch

Beam length switch

Some models for certain markets are equipped with a headlamp beam adjustment system.

By means of a switch on the dashboard the driver can change the vertical alignment of the headlamps. This prevents the drivers of oncoming vehicles from being dazzled when the car is heavily loaded.

When the ignition switch is in the Drive position, current is supplied to pin 9 of headlamp beam adjustment switch 282 via fuse 31.

When the switch is in position 0, the headlamps are at their normal setting. When the switch is turned to position 1, current is supplied to electric motors 280 and 281 (stepping motors) which then rotate a number of revolutions.

These motors turn the headlamp adjustment screws to lower the headlamp beam setting. When the switch is turned to position 2 or 3, the headlamp beam setting will be lowered an additional two steps.

In a similar manner, headlamp beam setting can be raised in steps through positions 3- 2-1-0.
