Fault diagnosis, airbag warning lamp 2 (central warning lamp), (MIU 2)

Fault symptom

The central warning lamp does not light up when the ignition switch is turned to the Drive position.

Note

If a fault occurs in the wiring between the airbag control module and the main instrument display panel, diagnostic trouble code B1232 or B1233 will be generated in the airbag system.

Diagnostic procedure

1. Check whether diagnostic trouble code B1232 or B1233 is present in the airbag system. If a trouble code is present, continue fault diagnosis as described in Service Manual 8:6 "Airbag" M1994 or 8:6 "SRS (airbag)" M1995.

2. If new trouble codes are generated, connect a BOB to the main instrument display panel's connector.

3. Check the operation of the central warning lamp by switching on the ignition and waiting until the lamp goes out (provided that there are no other faults in the car which could cause the lamp to remain alight).

Then ground pin 2 on the BOB.

If the main instrument display panel is OK, the central warning lamp should light up.

If it does not, the fault is in the processor card. Continue on page

Important

A diagnostic trouble code could be generated in the airbag system when pin 2 is grounded, causing the SRS 1 lamp to start flashing. If this happens, clear the trouble code.
