Background |
This SI attends to the questions and complications that may arise when replacing and programming remote controls and control modules for anti-theft alarms without VSS.
(Replacing anti-theft alarms with VSS is described in SI 383-1763).

Diagnostic procedure |
Make sure the anti-theft alarm fitted is without VSS.
When Tech 2 is connected for alarm diagnostics, a text is displayed showing the type of alarm fitted on the car.Diagnosis
Make a practice of always having the ignition ON when diagnosing with Tech 2.The procedure is divided into two sections:
A Control modules
B Remote control units
A. Control modules
A control module that is to be replaced under warranty must be disarmed before being removed and remote controls deprogrammed with the command “DEPROGRAM ALL” as described on page 175 in the Service Manual.

Parts must be sent together for testing of warranty claim parts whenever required. |

If these directions are not followed, the alarm control module will be returned and the whole claim amount will be recharged. |

If this cannot be done for some reason, the remote control units should be returned together with the control module for repair under warranty. |

If this is not done the claim will not be valid. |

B. Remote control units
Connect Tech 2 to a car with a functioning alarm. The remote control does not need to be programmed for the car it is being tested on.
Select the “READ VALUES” - “REMOTE CONTROL” menu. When the appropriate button on the remote control unit is pressed, this will be indicated on the diagnostic tool's display.
Replacing a remote control
If all remote control units are missing or unserviceable, the following steps should be taken when:

When the remote control can be programmed. When programming the remote controls, the command “DEPROGRAM ALL” (see page 175) must first be carried out before programming the “REMOTE CONTROL” (see page 175). |

The control module must be replaced. There is no possibility of using Tech 2 or any other method to disarm the control module. |
