Gear selector position sensor, gear engaged

Gear selector position sensor, gear engaged

The gear selector position sensor is mounted in the transmission housing. It contains the reversing light switch, starting interlock switch and switches which inform the transmission control module on which gear is engaged.

The gear selector position sensor is basically a positional switch that is supplied with current via the +X circuit and in which a number of slip contacts indicate the selector position. Different combinations of the terminals A, B, C and PA indicate the selector lever position (see table). The slip contacts can be either closed (ON) or open (OFF).

Incorrect decoding of the slip contacts will cause limp-home to activate.
