Function

1

SPORT SWITCH ON/OFF

The SPORT shifting program is activated by means of the sport switch on the selector lever. The sport switch is spring-loaded. When pressed, ON is displayed.

2

WINTER SWITCH ON/OFF

The WINTER shifting program is activated by means of the winter switch situated on the console. The winter switch is spring-loaded. When pressed, ON is displayed.

3

SPORT LAMP ON/OFF

The sport lamp comes on when the SPORT shifting program is activated.

4

WINTER LAMP ON/OFF

The winter lamp comes on when the WINTER shifting program is activated.

5

KICKDOWN SWITCH ON/OFF

Shows when the kickdown switch is activated. Depressing the accelerator fully activates the kickdown switch.

6

TORQUE LIMITATION ACTIVE/NOT ACTIVE

When shifting between certain gears, the torque of the engine is reduced so that gear-shifting will be smoother. The signal goes from the transmission control module to the Motronic engine control module which causes torque limitation to be effected.

7

DRIVE SIGNAL ON/OFF

When any gear (R, D, 3, 2, 1) is engaged from the neutral position, idling speed is increased in order to stabilize the engine. The signal goes from the transmission control module to the Motronic engine control module, which causes engine rpm to be increased.

8

BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH ON/OFF

Indicates the activated brake light switch, which closes when the brake pedal is depressed.

9

SOLENOID 1-2/3-4 ON/OFF

Solenoid 1-2/3-4 (S1), in combination with solenoid 2-3 (S2), carries out gear-shifting in the transmission. The solenoid operates when battery voltage is applied to it (12 V = ON). Status: Gear Solenoid 1-2/3-4 1 OFF 2 ON 3 ON 4 OFF

10

SOLENOID 2-3 ON/OFF

Solenoid 2-3 (S2) and solenoid 1-2/3-4 (S1) jointly carry out gear-shifting in the transmission. The solenoid operates when battery voltage is applied to it (12 V = ON). Status: Gear Solenoid 2-3 1 ON 2 ON 3 OFF 4 OFF

11

SOLENOID LOCK-UP ON/OFF

Solenoid lock-up (SL) controls the lock-up function in the transmission. The solenoid operates when battery voltage is applied to it (12 V = ON). Lock-up is implemented for gears 3 and 4.

SELECTOR POS. SENSOR

By means of four contact functions, A, B, C and PA, the gear selector position sensor informs the transmission control module which gear has been selected. The status of all four contacts is displayed simultaneously.

CONTACT A ON/OFF

P - ON R - ON N - OFF D - OFF 3 - ON 2 - ON 1 - OFF Battery voltage, 12 V, is recorded as ON.

CONTACT B ON/OFF

P - OFF R - ON N - ON D - ON 3 - ON 2 - OFF 1 - OFF Battery voltage, 12 V, is recorded as ON.

CONTACT C ON/OFF

P - OFF R - OFF N - OFF D - ON 3 - ON 2 - ON 1 - ON Battery voltage, 12 V, is recorded as ON.

CONTACT PA ON/OFF

P - ON R - OFF N - ON D - OFF 3 - ON 2 - OFF 1 - ON Battery voltage, 12 V, is recorded as ON.

TCS ACTIVE ON/OFF

Signal from the TCS control module indicating that the TCS control module is active, that is to say wheelspin has been identified. The TCS lamp in the TCS system, which grounds the indicator lamp in the event of wheelspin, is activated by the signal at the same time. Ground, 0 V, is recorded as ON. The command is only available in combination with V6 engine.

14

CHECK GEARBOX ON/OFF

The indicator lamp lights up and stays on in the event of a system malfunction and when the emergency operation program is activated. The transmission control module grounds the lamp circuit. Ground, 0 V, is recorded as ON.

15

CHECK ENG. REQUEST ON/OFF

This command is valid only for cars which are adapted for the legally required diagnosis according to on-board diagnostic II in the United States. On-board diagnostic II diagnostic trouble codes which cause the CHECK ENGINE lamp (MIL) to light up are controlled by this signal. Ground, 0 V, is recorded as ON.
