Gear selector movement sensor


The gear selector movement sensor is mounted in the gear lever. If the sensor needs changing, the complete gear lever will have to be changed.

The sensor consists of an aluminium housing with an inductive force sensor and integral electronic circuitry supplied with current (B+) from control module pin 14 and connected to ground via control module pin 36.

The sensor applies a voltage to control module pin 29 which is dependent on the magnitude of the force acting on the gear lever in a longitudinal direction. When the gear lever is subjected to zero force, this voltage is between 2.17 and 2.83 V. The nominal voltage is 2.5 V.

The control module adapts the voltage when the gear lever is subjected to zero force. The conditions for adaptation are as follows:


Engine running

Sensor voltage constant for 8 minutes


The voltage from the sensor is used for:



1. Opening (disengaging) the clutch when the gear lever is moved out of gear to neutral, provided that the throttle is not open too wide.

2. Keeping the clutch engaged if the gear lever is not moved towards neutral or another gear position. In the event of a fault in the sensor or the circuit connected to it, the "CHECK ACS" lamp lights up and it will be difficult to change gear during heavy engine braking or at light throttle openings.
